Intervention Radiology - an alternative method

The application of effective medical treatment is dependent on the expertise of medical specialists and physicians in various fields of medicine. Today, with the increasing importance of radiology in medical treatment, Intervention Radiology has become increasingly prominent in many areas.

Intervention radiologists are specialists in reading x-ray films and other medical images from advanced computerized equipment, such as ultrasound, CT-scan and others. For example, intervention radiologists can accurately locate where a tumor is -- be it the liver, pancreas, spleen, intestine, retroperitoneum (behind the abdominal area), etc. -- its proximity to which organs, its consequences and whether intervention radiology is feasible.

Where intervention radiology is advisable, the physician will first take a biopsy, using puncture, or venopuncture procedures, which are able to reach directly to the affected area, obviating an operation and anesthetic, thus eliminating a recuperation period and ultimately reducing diagnostic costs.

Intervention radiology can also be used in non-vascular treatment, known as Non-vascular Intervention Radiology, which assists in providing relief for various illnesses, where an operation is not advisable. These include releasing bile retention from the liver via skin pores; releasing urine retention from the kidneys, releasing pus from the abdominal area, or other interior organs such as the liver, etc. Using a simple local anesthetic injection, Non-vascular Intervention Radiology may be performed, even in the most severe cases.

CHEMO-EMBOLIZATION OF MALIGNANT TUMOR is a modern, well-proven and effective practice for the treatment of cancer. A range of chemotherapeutic drugs via chemo-infusion (enabling the drugs to reach the affected inner organs, when an operation is not possible) is used, combined with embolization (blocking the blood supply to the malignant tumor, depriving it of nutrients). This combined treatment aims to stop the tumor from growing and destroy it by cutting off its blood supply channels. Intervention treatment is widely used to treat certain types of cancer when an operation is not possible, such as liver cancer.

Bangkok Hospital Pattaya is now ready and fully equipped to provide the latest state-of-the-art Intervention Radiology treatment, which is recognized for its effectiveness in diagnosing and treating cancer and may be used to treat virtually all affected organs within our body's system.
